The playoff dream for the Blyth Brussels Minor Hockey Association and its Crusaders team came to an end on Saturday, when the U13 team lost to the Wingham Ironmen in their Western Ontario Athletic Association championship series by a score of 4-3.
The teams played the second game of their series on Friday afternoon at the Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre which, despite the valiant effort of the home team, ended in defeat for the Crusaders. This came after a 4-1 loss to the Ironmen in Wingham on Thursday, March 20, the first game of the series.
This marks the end of the 2024/2025 season for the Crusaders, with no games left on the schedule for the end of March and into April.
On Sunday, March 23, the U9 LL Crusaders beat the Central Perth Predators on the road by a score of 2-1, while the U9 MD team lost to the Arthur Vipers, also on the road, by a score of 5-4 that same day.
One day earlier, both teams were also in action. The U9 LL team beat the Central Perth Predators at home in Brussels by a score of 3-2 and the U9 MD Crusaders lost to the Cyclones in Listowel that same night, also by a score of 3-2.
The U7 White and Burgundy teams were scheduled to play a pair of Goderich Sailors teams on the road that day as well, but those games were cancelled.
Back on March 20, the U9 MD team lost to the Owen Sound Junior Attack on the road by a score of 3-2 after, one day earlier, beating the Arthur Vipers in Brussels by a score of 5-4 and another 5-4 win over the Goderich Sailors White team on March 18.
The U9 LL Crusaders played the Goderich Sailors Black team on the road on March 25 and the U9 MD team played the Listowel Cyclones on March 26 in Brussels, but scores for those games were unavailable at press time.
