Sara Jane (Sadie) Macdonald (née Pierce)
It is with sorrow we announce the loss of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Sara Jane (Sadie) Macdonald, who passed away peacefully at Peel Manor Long Term Care in Brampton, Ontario on May 4, 2018. Born on June 27, 1912, she was 105.
Predeceased by her husband Burton, Sara is mourned by sister Lettie and brother Jack, sons Ross (Barbara), Markdale and Keith (Dorothy), St. Albert, Alberta; daughters Ruth (Heinz), Sidney, British Columbia and Joyce (Glenn), Brampton. She was the dear grandmother of Terry, Bradley, Alexander (Sandy), Bruce, Gail, Janice, Christine, Carol, Bryan and Karyn and the great-grandmother of Joshua, Ashleigh, Matthew, Alexander, Robin, Emily, Laura, Amy, Spencer, Paige, Blair, Weston and Bailey.
Born on a farm near Brussels, in 1912, Sara married Burton Macdonald in 1931, making homes throughout southern Ontario in Cromarty, Staffa, Ajax, Georgetown, Brampton and Markdale, as well as a winter home in Lakeland, Florida. Both Burt and Sara were avid lawn bowlers and enjoyed many years bowling at the Georgetown Lawn Bowling Club.
Sara was an accomplished musician – sharing God’s love through the piano, organ and the church bells. She enjoyed a very active church life at Knox Presbyterian Church in Georgetown and enjoyed playing the organ in many churches throughout Ontario and in Florida.
Friends were received at the J.S. Jones & Son Funeral Home, Georgetown on Monday, May 7 prior to the funeral service. A reception followed in the Trafalgar Room. Interment was held at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Ethel on Tuesday, May 8.
