Ronald Stewart Higgins

Ronald Stewart Higgins passed away peacefully on Nov. 16, 2023 at Rotary Hospice Stratford-Perth, surrounded by his family. 

 

Ron was born on his grandparents’ farm near Molesworth to Stewart and Marie (Doig) Higgins. 

 

He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Shirley (McNeil), and his beloved children, Karen (Clive) Edmonds, Terry (Brenda) Higgins, and Wanda (Kent) Cleland. 

 

Ron was the cherished grandpa/papa of Mandy (Trevor) Voyce, Shauna Chapin, Sara, Alex and Erin Cleland, Jamie, Daniel (Mackenzie) and Kevin Higgins. He was the dear great-grandpa of Elizabeth, Emily, William, Shayne, Max and Luke. 

 

Ron is also survived by his brothers Bill (Ruth Ann) and Paul (Rilla), brother-in-law Don (Susan) McNeil, sister-in-law Dianne McNeil, Clive’s daughters Chelsey, Elizabeth and Melinda and families, and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. 

 

Ron graduated from Wingham District High School, Stratford Teachers’ College and Waterloo Lutheran University. He was a dedicated educator for 35 years. He is fondly remembered for his many passions, including curling, sports, genealogy, classic cars, and family time at the cottage in Amberley. 

 

A celebration of Ron’s life will be held for family and friends on Sunday, Nov. 26 from 2 - 4 p.m. at the Best Western Arden Park Hotel, Stratford. 

 

The family wishes to thank the healthcare professionals who cared for Ron.
