Rodney Arthur Edwin Godden
Rodney Arthur Edwin Godden passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Nov. 30, 2023, at his home in his 84th year.
He was the loving husband of Gail for 58 years and the proud father of Troy and Tammy and Jody and James. Rod was the proud papa of Chelsi, Dakota, Sydney, Shelby, and Cooper and the great-grandfather of four.
Rod was the brother of Gary (Ruth Ann) and brother-in-law of Glen Cation.
He was predeceased by siblings Yvonne, Mervin (Helen) and sister-in-law Maria Cation and survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Rod loved his life, and he lived it to the fullest every chance he got. He liked to “take a rip” on the four-wheeler, spend a weekend hunting or fishing or look at tractors at the annual reunion of the Huron Pioneer Thresher and Hobby Association.
He loved tractors, especially John Deere tractors, and had a large collection. He also enjoyed woodworking, a friendly euchre game and meticulously mowing his lawn.
Rod’s true passion was for his family, whom he loved and nurtured and of whom he was so proud.
Rod was a humble, no-fuss-about-me type of guy, but he could always make you laugh and was the centre of attention at many social events. Rod’s love of life will be missed by many.
A special thanks to the Alexander family members, who have shown compassion, patience, and true love in taking care of Rod on this part of his journey. Also thank you to Dr. Bonnie Marshall and the Palliative Team at One Care for their help and guidance.
Cremation has taken place.
A come-and-go memorial gathering will take place at the Ethel Community Hall on Saturday, Dec. 9 from 1-3 p.m. with a celebration of Rod’s life beginning at 3 p.m.
In lieu of flowers and as expressions of sympathy, donations to the Grey Firefighters’ Association or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
