Mrs. Helena (Lanie) Petronella Maria Albers
Mrs. Helena (Lanie) Petronella Maria Albers passed away peacefully on Dec. 20, 2022. She was in her 79th year.
Lanie was the loving wife of Peter for 56 years and mother of Ann Marie (Paul) Fear, Marlene (Dean) Glanville, Patricia (Chris) Harburn, Pete (Leisa) Albers and Paul (Jenn) Albers.
She was the caring Oma of Natalie, Andrew, Anna, Darcy, Marina, Cody, Evan, Bryce, Chase, Alyssa, Peter, Lucas, and Chloe. She will always be cherished by her nine siblings and Peter’s 13 siblings and their families in Holland and Canada. She will be missed by her pet Westie, Kaylee.
Lanie had an outgoing personality; she loved to have fun and wanted to experience all that life had to offer. Lanie and Peter immigrated to Canada in 1967 shortly after they were married. Lanie and Peter lived and worked in several communities across Ontario before settling on the home farm outside of Brussels on the 4th of Grey in 1974.
Lanie enjoyed being active, taking many walks, including the four-day walk in Holland. She learned to swim at 50 and danced every chance she got. She loved cooking, canning, baking, gardening and spending time with family. Lanie was always on the go. She loved driving, visiting friends, shopping and playing the slots.
Lanie and Peter loved travelling to many countries around the world. Their most memorable vacation was their trip to Cuba in 2019. They had so much fun together.
Lanie was a hard worker, she was humble, inspiring and had a great love for her children and grandchildren that will last forever. She was very proud of her family. She always knew how to make them laugh and made them feel so loved.
We have fond memories of Oma’s Sunday breakfasts, her delicious homemade Dutch soup with those little meatballs and family time spent together. When out and about, we all loved stopping for a vanilla ice cream cone with Oma.
Lanie and Peter’s marriage was one to admire; they built a life together that they are so proud of, always walking life’s journey side by side. Lanie’s love for Peter was especially evident during her final journey with Alzheimer’s.
Friends and family were invited for visitation on Thursday, Jan. 5 at St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church. The Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, Jan. 6 at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior at St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers and as expressions of sympathy, donations to the Alzheimer Society of Huron County, would be appreciated.
