Mike Finlayson
Mike Finlayson of Blyth, formerly of Staffa, passed away peacefully at Stratford General Hospital on Thursday, Jan. 4, 2024 in his 61st year.
He is survived by his wife Joy. Mike didn’t have any children of his own, but, as he would say, “I’ve helped raise a bunch of them”. He leaves behind Cody Roetcisoender, Jesse and Bekki Roetcisoender, Tanya McNicol, Sarah Keys, Robin and Matt Campbell.
Other special people in his life were Hailey, Sloan, Everly, Quinn, Perri and Jack. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Betty Jo Cudmore, father-in-law Don Cudmore, sister-in-law Paula Root (Steve), many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be fondly remembered by many dear friends, neighbours and a brotherhood of truck drivers.
Mike was predeceased by his parents Reg and Ina Finlayson, grandparents Gordon and Hazel Scott, Lorne and Irene Finlayson, aunt Fran Melville and uncle Laird Finlayson (Ruby).
Growing up, Mike had a passion for baseball. He spent most of his childhood at his grandpa and grandma Scotts’ farm. Following in his father’s footsteps, the highway called and he took to the road trucking livestock, combining his two loves: farming and trucking.
He enjoyed having people over to visit and reminisce of stories about the road and the good times that were had. Even after his keys were hung up, the highway still called to him. He wanted nothing more than to jump back into that “379 Pete” and put it into the wind.
Friends were received at the Lockhart Funeral Home, Mitchell on Sunday, Jan. 7, followed by the funeral service on Monday, Jan. 8. A reception followed at the Lockhart Reception Centre. Spring interment in Staffa Cemetery.
