Leo Hector MacNeil
Leo Hector MacNeil of Brussels, and formerly of Brechin and Cape Breton, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Seaforth Community Hospital on Monday, June 26, 2017. Born in St. Margaret's Village, Cape Breton on Feb. 8 , 1927, Leo was in his 91st year.
Leo was the beloved husband of the late Mary MacKinnon and the late Gertrude “Trudy” Crack (April 25, 1995). Leo was the dear father of Kevin and Sandy MacNeil, Brechin; Kathy and Paul Nichol, Brussels and J. D. and Martha MacNeil, Guelph and the loving grandfather of Jeremy, Kristin, Katie, Stuart, Ethan, Seth, Connor, and Duncan and great-grandfather of Logan, Dylan, Chloe, Abel, and Lilyana. Leo is also loved by his many nieces and nephews.
Leo was predeceased by his siblings Elizabeth and Joe MacNeil, Jim and Rita MacNeil, George and Refina MacNeil, Dan and Lillian MacNeil and Anne and Howard Coones.
The family received friends on June 28 and June 29 at the Schimanski Family Funeral Home, Brussels, ahead of a Mass of Christian Burial on June 29 from St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, Brussels.
A reception followed in the church hall with remembrances of Leo given by his grandson Seth, nephew David Crack and niece Cyndi Montana.
Pallbearers were Seth Nichol, Ethan Nichol, Paul Nichol, Stuart MacNeil, Jeremy Chamberlain and David Crack. The interment took place on Friday, June 30 at St. Andrew’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Brechin, Ontario.
As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of Huron County, the Brussels Fire Department or a local charity of one's choice would be appreciated by the family.
