Larry Hugh Johnston

Larry Hugh Johnston passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 15, 2023 at the age of 79. 

 

The devoted husband of 57 years of Helen (Buffinga), Larry was the father of Walter (Betty-Ann) and Grace (Joseph) Gowanlock and very proud Opa of Samantha (Ethan) Hamilton, Sarah Gowanlock and Ryan Johnston.

 

Larry is survived by his brother Allan Johnston, sister Irene Bennett, sister-in-law Peggy Hugill and brothers-in-law Don (Darlene) Fischer, Albert (Mary) Buffinga, Ralph (Margaret) Buffinga and Case (Ruth) Buffinga. He will be remembered by his many nieces and nephews.

 

Larry was predeceased by his parents, Hugh and Malinda Johnston, in-laws Henry and Grace Buffinga, brother Walter Johnston, sisters Joyce Colyer, Linda Fischer, Shirley Clarke, brothers-in-law Keith Clarke, Kelly Bennett and nephew David Johnston.
It was evident to all who knew Larry that farming was his true passion, as he farmed until the day his illness was discovered. Larry was a dairy farmer for many years and also had a breeder flock, before transitioning into laying hens and broilers. 
He looked forward to crop times. He was hard working and very particular with the condition of his homestead and fields. He often reached out to help those needing support and was a dedicated member of Trinity Christian Reformed Church in Goderich.

 

Larry was well known for his quiet demeanour, unprecedented dedication and strength. We are incredibly grateful for the staff at University Hospital and London Health Sciences Centre, Alexandra Marine and General Hospital and the Huron Hospice Bender House for their compassion and support.

 

At Larry’s request, there will be no funeral home visitation. A funeral service took place at Trinity Christian Reformed Church, Goderich, on Saturday, Aug. 19, with Pastor Tim Keep officiating.

 

Memorial donations to the Trinity Christian Reformed Church, Huron Hospice Bender House or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated and may be arranged through Falconer Funeral Homes - Bluewater Chapel in Goderich, to whom arrangements have been entrusted.
