John Edward Green
John Edward Green of RR3, Wingham passed at Wingham and District Hospital on Saturday, Oct. 31, 2020. He was 77.
John was the loving husband of Arlene Green and devoted dad of Sherry and Doug Shiell, RR5, Wingham and Kevin Green and Teresa Wall, Wingham. He was the cherished grandpa of JD and Kate Shiell, Matt Shiell and Abbie, Ryan Shiell, Shaelin Green, Shelby Green and Spencer Green and Lexie and great-grandpa of Tatum Shiell.
John was the dear brother of Rhonda Green and Fred de Boer and Terry and Lisa Green and brother-in-law of Aileen Wilkinson. John will be lovingly remembered by his nieces Ann, Marilyn, Tara, Darcy and Keri as well as special family, Jake and Stephanie Eishenhofer.
John was predeceased by his parents Cecil and Florence Green and brother-in-law Ken Wilkinson.
John was born in Collingwood on Aug. 23, 1943. He married the love of his life, “his Evi,” the former Arlene Wilkinson on Feb. 23, 1963. John and Arlene bought the butcher shop from Percy and Jean Deyell in 1971 and semi-retired in 2005.
He was an innovator in the agriculture and meat industry serving the needs of Wingham and area for over 30 years. John still played an essential role in Green’s Meat Market even after his retirement. However, when he was not working, he and Arlene loved to travel and camp.
His love for his family and his farm, the place where he enjoyed his bush, horses and woodworking was undeniable. John was a jack of all trades, he was loving, kind, hardworking, and a devoted business man, husband, dad and grandpa. There will never be a day that goes by that he is not thought of with fondness and dearly missed by all who knew him.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a private family service was held at McBurney Funeral Home on Nov. 3. Interment will take place at Wingham Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Wingham and District Hospital Foundation – Oncology Unit would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
