Ivan Campbell Dow
Eighty-five years after coming into this world, the youngest son of Eccles and Wellington Dow, the youngest sibling of the late Ada Taylor, Eva Snell, Nelson and Donald, Ivan Campbell Dow bid his world goodbye. An end to an era.
“I never met anyone I didn’t like.” Will Rogers said it, Ivan Dow lived it. He was a genuine people person! A stranger was a friend to-be. Ivan saw and respected the good in people.
As with so many others, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic hit hard. In March of 2020, Ivan was hospitalized and waited four months for a long-term care bed. The isolation of visitor restrictions took its toll. And though he would rather have gone home to his van Dow farm on Belfast Road, he moved to Huronlea Home of the Aged, Brussels. He took it all in stride, settled right in and never complained. He appreciated the loving attention and nothing but excellent care he received at Huronlea.
To honour Ivan’s memory, his wife Elly and his family kindly ask that you forget flowers and sympathy cards, buy a book of stamps and connect with family and friends who you are blessed to still have with you. Or, for those who wish, Ivan’s favourite charity was Operation Smile Canada.
A graveside service and celebration of an admirably lived (at his own pace) life will be held at a later date. “Yes dear!”
