Hubert Hoba

Hubert Hoba passed away on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 at Huron Hospice at the age of 95.  Hubert was born in Fuersten-Ellguth, Germany, the youngest of Lorenz and Katharina Hoba’s seven children.  

 

Hubert met Edelgard Kopp in Wehdem, Germany, and they planned a new life in Canada. Hubert emigrated in 1954, and immediately began work at Howson & Howson Flour Mills as a miller, a job for which he had trained and been employed in Germany. Edelgard followed later, and a week after she arrived, they were married in Toronto on March 15, 1956.  
Originally living in Blyth, they purchased a 50-acre farm just north of Blyth and made it their home.  

 

Hubert was the loving father of Ralph, Michael (Jane), and Mark (Andrea) Hoba; the proud grandfather of Andrew and Christine; the step-grandfather of Kristie and Dan, Amy and Darcy, Meagan and Bruno, and Opa of four great-grandchildren.   

 

He is survived by Edelgard, as well as brother-in-law and sisters-in-law Erhard and Erika Kopp, British Columbia, and Helga Kopp, Germany.  

 

As Hubert wished, cremation has taken place. Family and friends were received at the Blyth United Church, on Wednesday, June 29, followed by the funeral service. Interment of ashes was at Blyth Union Cemetery.
