East Wawanosh celebrates its 150th anniversary
along with Canada
As Canada prepares to
celebrate its 150th anniversary this year, so too does East Wawanosh Township,
which this year marks 150 years since its founding.
The special
anniversary event is scheduled for the weekend of June 30-July 2 and organizers
have been hosting special events to count down to the big weekend for over a
year.
Ahead of the weekend,
there will be an ambassador competition, but the weekend of the event will
include a golf tournament and the weekend will officially kick off at 7 p.m. on
June 30 with the opening ceremonies.
That night the ball
tournament will begin, the beard growing contest will be judged and the night
will end with a dance featuring music from The Containment Unit from 9 p.m.
until 1 a.m. at the Belgrave Community Centre.
The next day the
Kinsmen will host breakfast, and later in the day a chicken barbecue supper and
another dance.
Sunday, July 2 will
begin with a breakfast hosted by the Fire Department of North Huron, followed
by a church service, a supper hosted by the Blyth Lions Club, a moonlight walk
and a farewell family dance to end the weekend.
