Douglas Robert Pollard
Douglas Robert Pollard passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Jan. 13 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Kitchener. He was 71.
Doug was born in Wingham, in 1949. He attended Walton Public School, and later Clinton High School. As a young adult, he was known in Elmira for riding his three-wheeled bike all through town, and upon moving to Kitchener, he navigated the complex bus schedule like he had lived there his entire life. He had an amazing memory and sense of direction. Doug overcame many challenges in his life, including surviving COVID-19 in May of 2020.
Doug was a genuine, good soul. He was a lover of rock and roll music, especially Elvis. He had a great collection of rock albums. He was an avid baseball fan his entire life and once he settled in the retirement home, he also became a fan of hockey thanks to his roommate. Doug was always good natured.
He is predeceased by his parents George and Annie (née Craig), who were his biggest advocates in life. He is also predeceased by his brother Kenneth, brother-in-law Gary Fizell and niece Michelle. Doug will be fondly remembered by his siblings: Yvonne Irvine (John), London; Brian (June), Sarnia; Brenda Fizell (Jim), Listowel and sister-in-law Marion, Elmira. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and -nephews and great-grand-nephews.
Cremation has taken place. Donations in Doug’s memory may be made to Diabetes Canada or to a charity of one’s choice. To leave an online message of condolence, please visit www.westmountfuneralchapel.com
