Donna Clara Loretta (née Petteplace) Govier passed away on Nov. 19, 2023. She will be missed by her children Gary (Sandra), Herb (Tammy), Sherri (Rob) and Connie (Don) and their father Murray.
Donna is survived by sister Jean Meyer, sisters-in-law Dorothy Petteplace, Donna Petteplace and grandchildren Stevie, Cassandra, Daniel, Hailey, Sheril, Serina and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Donna was predeceased by parents, Herbert Petteplace and Loretta Willie, siblings Clayton (Ding), Ken, Gord, Bev, Gladys and Doug, in-laws Betty Jean Petteplace and Gerald Martin, and special family friend Peter.
Donna was a well-known face in her community, spending many years working as a gas attendant and dedicating most of her life to community service.
She held multiple executive roles at the Royal Canadian Legion in Blyth, overseeing Remembrance Day services and walking in many parades. She volunteered at the Blyth Festival and the annual reunion of the Huron Pioneer Thresher and Hobby Association for many years, enjoying the friendship it brought.
Donna was everyone’s friend, no matter your age. She was always willing to listen to your story and make you feel at home around the campfire. She loved camping and enjoyed hearing the river running and the crackle of the campfire. Donna had a huge heart, witty sense of humour (often with some sarcasm) and a welcoming smile to many in her community. Her zest for life and ability to inspire others will be missed by many.
Friends and family are invited to a come-and-go celebration of Donna’s life at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 420 in Blyth on Saturday, Dec. 9 from 1-4 p.m. A Royal Canadian Legion graveside service will take place in the spring at Blyth Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers and as expressions of sympathy, donations to the Royal Canadian Legion Blyth Branch 420 or Huron Residential Hospice would be appreciated.
Please send cheques to Box 199, Blyth, N0M 1H0.
