With his family by his side, Brian Prescott of Brussels passed away at Stratford General Hospital on Monday, Feb. 2, 2015. He was in his 80th year.
Born in Wesham, Lancashire, England on Sept. 30, 1935, he emigrated to Canada with his family, settling in Grey Township in March of 1948.
Brian was the beloved husband and best friend of Sheila (Black) Prescott for 54 years, dear father of Mark, Kanata; Paul and his partner Daryll, Morrisville, Pennsylvania; Peter, Burlington and David, Vancouver. He was the loving grandpa of Charlotte, Ben and Andrew and dear brother of Roy and Hang, Smith Falls; Eric and Vernice, Bluevale; Joe and Shirley, Woodstock; Valerie and Wally, Sarnia and Vernon, Chatham and dear brother-in-law of Jean Prescott, Grey Township; Marg Black, Morris Township and Bob Black, Clinton. Brian was predeceased by his brother Cyril, brother-in-law Laurie Black, sister-in-law Anita Black and his parents Thomas and Jane Prescott. He will also be greatly missed by his many nieces, nephews and close friends.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Brian’s life was held at Melville Presbyterian Church, Brussels on Saturday, Feb. 7. Rev. Elwin Garland officiated.
Sheila’s letter of remembrances of her husband Brian was read by their son Peter. As well Brian’s sons, Peter, Paul and David gave their own remembrances. As a musical tribute to his father, Mark Prescott sang, and accompanied himself at the piano, the hymn, “Be Still My Soul”. The Seaforth Harmony Kings (of whom Brian was a member) performed “I Believe”, “Amazing Grace” and “It is Well with My Soul”.
Honorary pallbearers were The Culture Club, consisting of Leslie Knight, Brian Armstrong, Neil Schade, Peter Allison, Jim Armstrong, Ralph Watson, Harvey Shaw and Murray McDonald.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Melville Presbyterian Church or the Seaforth, Stratford, Wingham or London Health Sciences Hospital Foundations would be appreciated by the family.
